A huge, "Thank you," for all those that came out today (30+ people) and helped look for birds! Even with the warm temperatures and windy conditions, the group tallied 62 species today…from ONE spot! Below is the eBird Trip Report for the DFO event.
https://ebird.org/tripreport/583079
Some really nice birds were seen today. Red-necked Grebe, Swamp Sparrow, Sabine’s Gulls(x4), Sandhill Cranes, American Pipit, Merlin(x2), and one Peregrine Falcon!
This was the the 20th Chatfield Big Sit! that DFO has held and that I have hosted. Usually this event has more species seen during inclement weather. The highest species numbers were 72 species (two different years). Nice weather yields fewer species (two years had only 52 species). So, having 62 species today is pretty good!
Until next time... :-)
Joey.
