[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Barr Banding Report, 10/5/23

There seemed to be lots more birds out on the lake this morning, but the passerine numbers did not increase due to the weather change (it was hat-and-glove weather early on for the first time this season).  A total of 16 new birds.  Only unusual captures were 4 Red-winged Blackbirds (we last caught one at the station in 2016).  They were part of a BIG flock of males that hit net 2 - many others bounced out; we only caught the 4 because Charlie Chase was right there when it happened.  Here's the 16 new:

Rock Wren 1
American Robin 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 3
Wilson's Warbler 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 1
Song Sparrow 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 2
Red-winged Blackbird 4

If you would like to visit our station, we have one-hour slots (up to 15 visitors at a time) from 7:30-8:30 most weekday mornings (Tues-Fri, we are closed on Mon) and 8, 9, and 10 a.m. one-hour time slots on the weekends.  As long as the heat continues, you are more likely to see birds if you come earlier in the morning.  Click here to make a reservation.
