[cobirds] Nature show - Douglas

This morning we watched an entertaining nature show on a forested slope near our home. We saw frantic juncos giving alarm chips & scuffling on some pine needles. This went on for 5 minutes until we noticed a black Garter Snake lying inert on the ground below the juncos' spots. Then in came 4 Mountain & 4 Black-capped Chickadees. Then a Cordilleran Flycatcher, 2 hummingbirds, a Chipping Sparrow, and a couple of House Wrens. Two Steller's Jays called from nearby. All the time juncos chipped both near the snake and 20 feet away (out of sight). In a half hourwe counted at least 20 birds of 8 species contributing to the uproar.

The attached picture shows the snake (as best as I can edit it). Left hand (or top) arrow points at its head, other arrow at its body. It should get turned 90 degrees to the left to show it as we saw it.
