The Black Forest CBC on Jan. 2, 2023, encountered adverse weather. Only 4 of us went out, and we had 4 counting at 2 feeders. The fog and the snow made conditions unsafe, so that none of the walking parties covered their (mostly ponderosa pine) territories, and the drivers elected not to navigate roads so foggy other cars couldn't see a stopped birder's vehicle.
We ended up with 31 species (close to the average of 35) but only 364 birds (1538 average). No notable observations to report.
