Hi birders,
We just wrapped up the first meetup for the newly fledged chapter of the Feminist Bird Club here in Denver. We did some urban birding starting in City of Cuernavaca Park downtown.
A good selection of expected birds showed up, plus a few we weren't sure we'd see in the heart of the city. We spotted all 5 species of typical swallows (no Bank), a flyover Black-Crowned Night Heron, and a vocal Cedar Waxwing. We had some closeup views of nesting Barn Swallows, a perched juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk, and many Yellow Warblers. Pretty happy with the results given the heat and the developed location.
If you're not yet aware of what the FBC does, they are dedicated to promoting inclusivity in birding and providing a safe opportunity for members of the LGBTQIA+ community, BIPOC, and women birders to connect with the natural world. There will be more events coming at accessible natural areas around Denver and the front range. With Pride month just starting and Black Birders Week just wrapping up, now is a great time to spread awareness and help create space for everyone to enjoy the outdoors and the birds we all love.
