Greetings COBirders,
Our section was the Section 16/Upper Bear Creek Drainage. The wren was found foraging in and along Bear Creek, which runs along High Drive. Here is a link to approximate coordinates. Where we found the bird, the creek was right along High Drive on the north side of the road (right side as you walk up High Drive from parking area). If you continue upstream to where the creek runs under the road and is then on the south (left) side, you have gone too far.
While the Pacific Wren was certainly our highlight, we also came across an American Three-Toed Woodpecker, two Golden-Crowned Kinglets, and a larger flock (~19) of Red Crossbills feeding on Douglas Fir cones. The Crossbills were part of a larger flock of birds feeding on one hillside which included around 10 Red-Breasted Nuthatches, 8 Mountain Chickadees, and 12 Pine Siskins. It was a lot of fun observing this large mixed flock working the hillside.
Happy Birding,
Cody Ensanian
