Hello all,
The newly formed CU-Boulder Birding Club made its inaugural outing this morning to Walden and Sawhill Ponds in Boulder. Attendees were Will Anderson, Paige Scatena, Jared Ganeles, Cole Sites, and me (the club's faculty sponsor). We had a nice morning, finding 38 species. The undisputed highlight was a juvenile Northern Goshawk that soared and flapped high over our heads for several minutes. Cole got some nice pictures that should show up on eBird at some point soon.
We heard from a couple other birders that a Sora was walking around in the open on the northwesternmost pond at Sawhill (the one with the Osprey platform). We didn't see it. There were two Great Horned Owls perched in trees along the Sawhill Ponds trail at different points west of the parking lot.
Good birding,
Nathan Pieplow
