A really nice day - good weather and lots of birds - 55 new, 17 species. We caught our second Savannah Sparrow of the season; the only other one was caught in 1991! The Yellow-rumped (Audubon's) Warblers and Chipping Sparrows came mid to late morning in tight flocks; the 7 AUWAs were all in the same net at the same time. The Blue Grosbeak, our fourth of the season, was young and likely a sibling of the 2 other young ones we caught a few days ago. Here's the breakdown:

We are open 6 days per week, Tuesday-Sunday, weather permitting, through October 13. We are opening nets at 6:40 and should have birds back at the station by 7:20. We will close nets most days at 11:40, although we are closing earlier as needed due to the heat. School groups arrive most weekdays at about 9:30. The best time to visit (fewest people, most birds) is before 9:30 weekdays and Sundays.
