I led a Boulder Bird Club trip to Barr Lake this morning. Around 10:30, a flock of Black Terns appeared out on the lake, and suddenly a large dark bird flew at one of them. My first thought was Jaeger, but it was gone as fast as it appeared....

Jaeger ID is tough, but I am happy you found it and it is likely a Parasitic, which is the least common of the three jaeger species to come through CO in the fall. The underwing lacks the double white marks of a Pomarine. The bill favors Parasitic, longish and black only at tip. Would like to see some warm tones, cinnamon in photos.Long-tailed Jaeger has a stubby bill, half dark.Way to go, Brian.Someone will surely get even better photos if it is there Thursday AM.Joe Roller,Denver--On Wed, Sep 7, 2016 at 9:11 PM, Brian Johnson <buntingrobinjay@gmail.com> wrote:It would help if I included a link for the photos, sorry rather giddy right now, http://ebird.org/ebird/view/ch--ecklist/S31467141

What I thought was a Herring Gull juvenile harassing the ring-bills has turned out to be a jaeger juvenile. Thank you Tony Leukering for pointing this out. I saw it at the Marina Sandspit last sighting was right over the marina at about 10 AM today, 9-7. Hopefully it is still there tomorrow also, some of the photos I got turned out to be a juvenile California Gull, so no Herring, but a jaeger! No Little Gull but this is cool also, a lifer for me. Not so sure of the spices right now, but I am leaning towards Parasitic. And at first I thought I did have a jaeger, turns out my first thought was right.
