[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding at Chico Basin Ranch Report- 9/30/16

Hiya!

So, we did manage to trap and band the Northern Saw-whet Owl that we heard calling yesterday morning and even after his release today, he was heard calling for almost the next hour or so, although no one was able to successfully find and resight him. That brings our total of NSWO banded up to three for this season.

We also had two Rock Wrens on the first net round, along with the owl, so that was exciting. We later captured both an Audubon's and a Myrtle Yellow-rumped Warbler at the same time so it was nice to be able to see them side by side as there is quite a difference in the hand. Although the Audubon's was a young male and the Myrtle was an adult female, so that might also account for some of the size difference.

Ruby-crowned Kinglets and White-crowned Sparrows still dominated the capture totals today.

We will be open for one more day this season so if you haven't stopped by to visit, please do.
