[cobirds] Seeking historical checklists/accounts of Cheesman & Denver Botanic Gardens

I'm currently working on a few, loosely related bits of research related to the birds of Cheesman Park & Denver Botanic Gardens. The public record for both spots is thin. We had fewer than 100 eBird checklists for the two spots entering 2015 and there are very few reports posted to CObirds from either. This probably means that neither spot has been frequently birded, but I'm reaching out to see if anyone has any interesting historical data or accounts from either spot.

I'd love to receive (by email) any and all reports from these spots or the Cheesman park neighborhood that other Colorado birders deem interesting. This can be a report of an uncommon bird for metro Denver or an exceptional encounter with an "everyday" bird. (Cheesman's birds are especially bold around birders—I've had a sharp-shin take a robin right from underneath me and had birds as varied as broad-tailed hummingbird, bushtit, common nighthawk, and red-tailed hawk approach close enough to reach out and grab.)

I'm especially interested in knowing the following:

  • Whether there were signs of poorwill at either spot or the surrounding neighborhood prior to this year,
  • Whether birds not on the lists below have been spotted (including just flying over). I especially need help with birds that would likely be seen November – January, as they are very few checklists for these spots on eBird. If you do have a bird to add, I'd be thrilled to see it also show up on the main hotspot list on eBird ("Denver Botanic Gardens & Cheesman Park"),
  • Whether there are earlier reports of the birds that were first reported in 2013-15,
  • Whether there are more recent reports of birds that have not been seen there recently, or
  • Whether a bird seen once -- those that have the same first and last report date -- have been seen at other points.

But, again, anything helps. I only moved to Denver in 2012 and have only lived here year-around since October 2014, so I have no sense of what the park or Gardens used to be like!
