[cobirds] Cornell Lab Biologist presents The Sagebrush Sea at DMNS October 28

Cobirders,

Cornell Lab (of Ornithology) has done it again. The videos made by the incomparable videographer Gerrit Vyn will change you. The next time you pass through the Sagebrush Sea, you will have a new appreciation for the fascinating lives playing out on its stage. Thought to be dry and desolate, sagebrush lands have held little interest for people. Dry, yes, it is. Desolate? Far from it. Naturally, the Greater Sage-Grouse holds center stage. Films of this iconic bird will be breathtaking of course. The other creatures living in this land, however, also will inspire you. Fabulous videos of Golden Eagles and the prey they pursue will liven your experience.

There is not enough known about these lands. For example, some birds are experiencing population losses of 70%, far greater than the loss of habitat. Why? Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is looking for answers. One important ingredient is getting more people to understand the value of these lands and want to know more.

Come see The Sagebrush Sea, at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. I was privileged to see this film, and the beauty of its inhabitants and the lives they live continue to make an impact on me.

Presenting the video is biologist and producer Marc Dantzker, from Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. He will be available to answer questions about this entire production as well as his special interest, the lek.  This is presented in partnership with Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, Audubon Society of Greater Denver, and Audubon Rockies.
