[cobirds] Re: El Paso county --- Snowy Plover

Mark,

I saw the Caspian Tern come in at Prospect Lake around noon.  It made one dive to grab a fish, circled the Lake once and then circled up and away.  So it was a very brief visit at Prospect Lake, but a lifer for me that was really cool.  When I saw the report at Big Johnson, I thought it may have been the same bird.  I wasn't sure if there were other Caspian Terns aloft that the bird I saw joined, because when it was spiraling up, there were three other birds aloft that looked similar in wing shape, but I wasn't confident of their ID.

Thanks for he list of birds at Big Johnson.

Cheers,

COBirders,

Maybe of more local interest, late this evening there was a single SNOWY PLOVER along the north (northeast) shoreline of Big Johnson Reservoir.  Basically the same area that the WHIMBREL was/is.

Unfortunately, the Caspian Tern was not there and nor was it there around 1 this afternoon which was soon after it was originally found.  I suspect it came in and left relatively quickly.  I am not sure of the timing but there was a Caspian Tern seen at Prospect Lake today as well, maybe the bird went to Big Johnson and then to Prospect?  Other birds at Big Johnson this evening of interest:

Greater Scaup (male that has been around for a while)
Snowy Egret
White-faced Ibis
Long-billed Curlew
Marbled Godwit
Greater Yellowlegs
Willet
Lesser Yellowlegs
Least Sandpiper
Long-billed Dowitcher
Wilson's Phalarope
Forster's Tern

Overall numbers of birds has definitely gone down but still a lot of birds to look at.
