Re: [cobirds] Tumbleweed problems at Chico Basin Ranch, El Paso/Pueblo Counties

To clarify: the usual entrance fee to Chico Basin Ranch will not be charged to workers.

Thanks for posting this, Brandon.

Just to add a bit - they'll be working from 8 am to 4 pm on March 21 and April 4. You are welcome to come for any amount of time - even an hour or two would be helpful.

The folks ask that you dress properly (be prepared for tumbleweeds that are up to 20 feet high), wear heavy gloves and bring a pitchfork, if you have one.

Also, please bring your own lunch, water and snacks.

If you value this property, and the birds who frequent it, please come if you are able. Your help is desperately needed.

Many thanks,

Chico Basin Ranch is hoping for helpers to try to remove the mass of tumbleweeds at the RMBO Banding Station in El Paso County.  Photos can be seen here https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10206318845676300&set=gm.10152595513612038&type=1&theater

Dates that they are working there will be Saturdays, 21 March and 4 April (I doubt two days will be enough to make a dent in the tumbleweed problem, though maybe).  If you have questions, call the Ranch, during business hours, 719.683.7960.  Check the CBR website too for information about the Ranch.  http://www.chicobasinranch.com/

Anyone who plans to bird there this spring, might want to help with this, as it will be hard to bird in there, with the tumbleweeds covering all of the banding lanes.  The tumbleweeds are also bad at the Headquarter Willows and pond there, though I'm not sure they plan to remove those.

I was out at Chico today, and the tumbleweed problems are really really 100 times bad!
