Dotti Russell, Norma Verhoeff and I birded for a couple of hours on this very beautiful day in SECO.
Highlights from my yard in the Willow Valley Subdivision in a 30 minute span, 13 species seen: 1 White-winged Dove, 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker (both male and female visit the peanut feeder daily), 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch, 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet, 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon's), 6 White-crowned Sparrows and 1 Pine Siskin (last of many) among the more common birds.
Highlights in Bent County (restricted access), 19 species seen: 4 Blue-winged Teal, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Sage Thrasher, 1 White-throated Sparrow (always a treat to see), and 3 Harris's Sparrows.
Highlights at Thurston Lake, 28 species seen: 500 Sandhill Cranes (another treat to see) were among the expected birds this time of year. There is seep water in Thurston, presently.
