Today I birded from Broomfield n. to Loveland. Highlights were as follows
1) BLACK BRANT. Yesterday, I was alerted that a Brant had been reported intermittently at L Loveland from 3-12 December. The observers did not post their finds to COBIRDS, so I will respect their apparent wishes and not divulge their names. In any case, there were few geese at L Loveland, so I looked at a map and noted that there were two golf courses just w. of Lake Loveland on w. 29th. I pulled into Cattail Creek G.C., and from the parking lot, a large number of geese could bee seen scattered across the grass. After a bit, I located the Brant (a Black Brant) in among many Lesser Canada Geese. I also found a SNOW GOOSE x LESSER CANADA GOOSE.
2) WESTERN SCRUB-JAY. One was in the neighborhood directly w. of L. Loveland (one block away) on w. 22nd
3) 3 LESSER BLACK-BACKED (adults) and 2 THAYER'S GULLS (ad and juv). At L Loveland about 1 hour before sunset
4) WHITE-WINGED DOVE. Near Panama Reservoir in Boulder County at corner of Oxford and 119th. Along 119th, just n. of Oxford, there were about 5000 geese, mostly Lesser Canadas, but also 7 SNOW GEESE and 3 ROSS'S GEESE
5) SAY'S PHOEBE. At LUNA Reservoir
6) ROSS'S GOOSE. 3 more at Frederick Rec Area, Weld Co.
7) WESTERN GREBE. One on Panama Reservoir, which now has some water, but remains mostly frozen
8) EARED GREBE. More seem to be lingering in n. Colorado this winter than last. 2 were at LUNA Res.
