With migration in full swing, but a mid-morning appointment in the way, ran down to a couple of local hotspots in southwest Denver first thing this morning (Tues., 3 May’23), Overland and Ruby Hill Parks (Denver Co.). Found/refound a very nice PALM WARBLER running with some YELLOW-RUMPs (all flavors) in the pines at the northeast corner of Ruby Hill; intersection of Florida & So.Platte River Dr. Also in this group was a first-of-season for me YELLOW WARBLER and a good number of CHIPPING SPARROWs.
After combing this area, ran across the road to Overland Park to see what was going on there. The male NORTHERN PARULA found yesterday was still cooperative and singing in the cottonwoods along the west side of the pond. A nice surprise at the pond was a bright WHITE-FACED IBIS perched on one of the log on the shore. Other birds of interest were continuing SOLITARY SANDPIPER and LINCOLN’S SPARROW.
