I happen to be in Eaton (WELD COUNTY) today and decided to stop by the cemetery, as I seem to often see interesting birds reported there. Glad I did, as I found a male RED CROSSBILL singing/calling atop one of the tall Evergreen trees near the flag pole. It flew to the North and I couldnt tell if it stayed in the cemetery.
More frequently found along the mountains in Colorado, but the number of reports along the plains is much more sparse. Only a few dozen Weld county reports of the species in eBird. Guessing the weather may have pushed it out this way from the front range.
I tried to capture audio, but not sure its intelligible with the wind. Not a lifer for me today, as I saw a group in Boulder County earlier this year for my 254th species in the state, though didn't have my camera with me that time. I was able to catch a photo of this one - making 246 species I've photo'd in the state.
