I noticed the same thing on those species and American Goldfinch, Flickers, and a Townsend Solitaire as well. Chilly overnight for our feathered friends!

Presumably snow is falling on them and sticking, or it gathered as ice on them overnight? It doesn't fluff off, nd at the same time they do not seem too bothered.
