[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Barr Banding Report, 10-4-22

Based on conversations with visitors this morning, there were sunny skies in much of the Denver metro area but NOT at Barr Lake, where thick fog rolled in as we started to open nets and began lifting just as we started closing nets 5 hours later.  Our concern that the fog would turn to mist led us to open only half the nets and we humans were underdressed and chilled.  But the birds were frisky and carrying more fat than I think we've seen any morning this season.  White-crowned Sparrows were "everywhere" and clearly dominated our captures.  Here is a breakdown of the 33 new birds (there were also 12 recaps):

Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 6
Wilson's Warbler 3
Song Sparrow 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 2
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 16
White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 1
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 1
Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 1

If you'd like to enjoy fall birds up close and personal, please come visit!  You do need a reservation - just click here! we are offering one-hour slots (up to 15 visitors at a time) from 7:30-8:30 most weekdays (closed Mondays), and 8-9, 9-10, and 10-11 on weekends.
