Just never know what we will catch! Today's fun included 2 species that are not rare but rarely caught at the station - a Townsend's Solitaire and a Western Kingbird. The WEKI was the first since 2004 and only the 5th ever. We also caught 3 House Wrens that were banded in prior years. Here's the breakdown of the 48 new birds:
-- Western Kingbird 1
Plumbeous Vireo 1
House Wren 1 new, 2 banded in 2017 and 1 in 2016
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Townsend's Solitaire 1
Swainson's Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 5
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 1
MacGillivray's Warbler 1
Wilson's Warbler 28
Green-tailed Towhee 1
Song Sparrow 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 1
We are open 6 days per week, Tuesday-Sunday, weather permitting, through October 13. We are opening nets at 6:40 and should have birds back at the station by 7:20. We will close nets most days at 11:40, although we are closing earlier as needed due to the heat. School groups arrive most weekdays at about 9:30. The best time to visit (fewest people, most birds) is before 9:30 weekdays and Sundays.
Come visit!
