[cobirds] American Black Duck, Larimer County

The American Black Duck, originally reported by Nick Komar, was seen at North Poudre #3 Reservoir north of Wellington this morning. The very dark body plumage makes it stand out from the large throng of Mallards that it is with. The head and neck, while lighter than the body plumage, was still darker than the typical female Mallard. The bill is bright yellowish green. While repositioning itself with the flock, it turned away from me with the rump facing me and facing the sun. The undertail appeared solid black with no apparent light feathers in the tail. It did not open its wing, so I did not get an opportunity to see the wind and speculum.
