[cobirds] Bird & Nature events this weekend at Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County

Hey, everybody.

The City of Lafayette & partners will be hosting a series of birding and nature study events this coming weekend, Sept. 22-23.

First up, tomorrow evening, Saturday, is a lantern walk followed by an introduction to the songs of insects. We'll listen for "The Big 5" at this time of the year: Snowy Tree Cricket, Fall Field Cricket, Allard's Ground Cricket, Greater Anglewing Katydid, and Plains Harvest Fly. Expect to hear other insects, especially various ground crickets and katydids. The event gets underway at 6:30 pm at the Waneka Lake boat house, directly south of Greenlee Preserve.

On Sunday afternoon, starting at 1pm, the city will be hosting its 5th annual Bird Migration Celebration, starting at 1pm. Short bird walks will be going out of Greenlee Preserve. Also there will be booths, vendors, raptors, schwag, and more. Some of the common birds of late around Greenlee Preserve & environs have included Swainson's Hawk, Snowy Egret, Say's Phoebe, Bushtit, and Lesser Goldfinch. And Wilson's Warblers galore. We always find something interesting on September bird walks at the preserve!

All events are free and open to the public.

Hope to see you there!
