[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Barr Lake Station, 9/28/18

Our first cold morning.  With only half the nets open we still managed to catch and band 36 new birds.  I was anticipating sparrow and other colder weather birds, but the Kinglets (including our 2nd GCKI of the season) and Warblers dominated, coming through in a couple of tight flocks during the course of the morning.  Here's the breakdown:

Red-shafted Flicker 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3
Hermit Thrush 3
Orange-crowned Warbler 9
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 4
Wilson's Warbler 8
Song Sparrow 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 5
Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 1

We are open 6 days per week, Tuesday-Sunday, weather permitting, through October 14. We are opening nets at 6:30 and should have birds back at the station by 7:15. We will close most days by about 11:30. School groups arrive most weekdays at about 9:30. The best time to visit (fewest people, most birds) is before 9:30 weekdays and Sundays.

Come visit!
