[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Barr Lake Station, 9/23/18

Another lovely banding day, with lots of families out enjoying the birds.  53 birds of 16 species, including first of season Swainson's Thrush and Flicker, which wins the prize for the noisiest bird of the season so far.  We continue to catch large numbers of Audubon's YR Warblers, almost all of which have been hatch year birds.  Had Cassin's and Red-eyed Vireos in the hand at the same time.   Here's the breakdown:

Northern Flicker, Red-shafted 1
Cassin's Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Marsh Wren 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
Swainson's Thrush 1
Hermit Thrush 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 10
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 20
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 5
Chipping Sparrow 5
Song Sparrow 2
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 2

We are closed tomorrow/Monday, then open 6 days per week, Tuesday-Sunday, weather permitting, through October 14. We are opening nets at 6:30 and should have birds back at the station by 7:15. We will close most days by about 11:30, earlier as long as this heat continues. School groups arrive most weekdays at about 9:30. The best time to visit (fewest people, most birds) is before 9:30 weekdays and Sundays.

Come visit!
