re: [cobirds] Speaking of New World Vultures...

The great number of motorboats on Cherry Creek reservoir chase the white pelicans away on weekends.
As for the turkey vultures...I almost never see any except in migration, even doing a lot of driving, most frequent route Aurora to Parker along Parker Road.  I have only seen two individuals this summer.

Greetings COBIRDers:

This week's posting of the California condor has spurred me to finally ask a question: has anyone else noticed that there seem to be very few turkey vultures in the Denver Metro area this summer? My normal travels take me from about Castle Rock up to Loveland, and out to the Raptor Education Foundation near Barr Lake….I think I can count on my two hands, the number of vultures I've seen since March.

Meanwhile, I've seen easily triple the typical number of American white pelicans up in the air over Barr Lake this year, and in the surrounding skies, almost every morning when I arrive at work. Not raptors, but just as beautiful to behold.

Comments and opinions are most welcome!
