This is the Rare Bird Alert for Monday, July 23 sponsored by Denver Field Ornithologists and the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies. Note that the RBA is using the new AOU checklist, and the order of families has changed.

Surf Scoter (Alamosa)
COMMON GALLINULE (Larimer)
Ruddy Turnstone (*Boulder)
Little Blue Heron (Weld)
Pacific Wren (Boulder, Larimer)
BAIRD'S SPARROW (Larimer)
Rose-breasted Grosbeak (Denver)
Grace's Warbler (Pueblo)

ALAMOSA COUNTY:
---On July 17 at San Luis Lake Lisa Rawinski reported Surf Scoter.

BOULDER COUNTY:
---On July 12 at Rocky Mountain National Park Wild Basin Dan Zmolek reported Pacific Wren near Calypso Falls; seen                                         
    again on July 17 & 18.
---On July 18 Philip reported a Ruddy Turnstone at Cottonwood Marsh.

DENVER COUNTY:
---On July 21 Jeff Dawson reported a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak on Gun Club Rd, south of 112th Ave.

KIOWA COUNTY:
---On July 22 Steve Mlodinow, reported a female MOTTLED DUCK at Neegronda Reservoir, just sw of the upper "boat launch," accessed on Kiowa Co Rd C. This is only the second state record. 

LARIMER COUNTY:
---On July 1 at Running Deer & Cottonwood Hollow NA, Robert  Beauchamp reported COMMON GALLINULE. Since then glimpses of this rarity have been had almost daily through July 15; and seen again on July 19. A ladder will enable views that might last for only 3 seconds to extend up to 6 seconds or even longer. Best results have been in early AM. 
---On June 22 at Comanche Peak Wilderness, Creek Falls Trails, Bill and Margaret Rowe reported Pacific  Wren. It has been seen off and on through July 17.  
---On July 17 - 20 at Soapstone Prairie NA Andy Bankert reported 5 BAIRD'S SPARROWS. Andy observed nestlings, representing the first documented breeding record of this species in Colorado! This exciting news was just released by Bird Conservancy of the Rockies.     

WELD COUNTY:
---On July 13,19 & 20 at Sandstone Ranch, Car Starace reported Little Blue Heron seen in the creek from new bridge, just east of County Line Rd.
