[cobirds] Speaking of Harlan's . . . 6th year! Arapahoe

South Platte Park has seen the return of the characteristic and charismatic Harlan's red-tailed hawk that hangs out near the Carson Nature Center.  He was first noticed in fall 2012, and again in 2013.  By 2014 we were watching for him and recorded his arrival date as Oct 26; then Oct 18 2015; Oct 22, 2016; and Oct 16, 2017!  He uses the same perches year after year, and always disappears to the north about the same week of April after spending the winter in Littleton.

It's fascinating to follow the habits of individual animals long term.  In my yard we had a fox squirrel turn up with a distinctive half-white tail (dubbed Olaf by our kids, Dipstick by the neighbors) who is now entering his 5th winter.
