Hi all
Nice to be back in western CO (albeit briefly – off to Antarctica in a week) on a lovely and calm, sunny, frosty Saturday morning at Spring Park reservoir, near El Jebel.
It was great to see thousands of waterfowl, the majority of which were American Wigeon, closely followed by American Coots. Some icing up along the water margin, but nothing of any consequence yet.
Of particular note were
2 Barrow's Goldeneye (both drakes) – the only goldeneyes present
1 Canvasback drake – quite unusual at this site
Scores of Buffleheads
10's of Eared Grebes – no other grebe species seen
Northern Shrike – across the road from the dam
But no scoters.. yet! will be searching local waters for some this week ...
Good birding all
Best wishes
