An American Bittern was calling Friday evening at Reservoir Ridge, after 7:30pm. Possibly earlier but it was windier earlier. I heard this same bird (presumably) LAST Saturday, also in the evening. It had been previously reported on eBird by other birders who may or may not follow COBIRDS.
Reservoir Ridge NA has multiple parking areas. This bird could be heard from the east-west trail that starts at the Overland Trail parking lot. It was in the reeds around the pond that is south of the trail about 0.5(?) miles from the parking lot.
We don't get many bitterns in Larimer County. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stay on the trail. Don't approach the pond. Hearing the bird is good enough. Don't make me regret posting here, which I do with some hesitation but with thanks for all of you who share so much information here.
Also: bobolinks are present here in numbers, and some other lovely birds, but I didn't find the Dickcissels reported yesterday morning.
