It was pretty slow banding at Clear Spring Ranch today, only 12 birds, my lowest number in 3 weeks, but there was a small influx of warblers around 8:30, including a hatch-year Northern Waterthrush (#17 for the season).
There are still several hundred mixed Red-winged and Yellow-headed Blackbirds scouring the oats, but the pickings are getting pretty slim compared to how it looked a couple of weeks ago. Only 2 Chipping Sparrows were caught today, and a solo Savanah Sparrow (#46 for the season - previous high season - 1). Also, three more early Lincoln's Sparrows were caught. My earliest date for them previously was 9/15!
Have a birdy weekend,
Steve Brown
