We've been having an amazing week in Chico! On Monday we banded 69 new birds and two new species for the season - Lark Sparrow and Golden-crowned Kinglet. Yesterday was a record number of banded birds in one day for this season at Chico - 100 exactly (111 with recaps). Yesterday was also a special day because a hatch year female Cooper's Hawk flew in the net early in the morning. Photos can be seen on Bill Maynard's Chico blog. Also of note yesterday: Red-naped Sapsucker, Cassin's Vireo, and Red-breasted Nuthatch.
-- Today there were 77 new birds banded, and 13 recaps.

1 - Oregon Dark-eyed Junco
There was also a lovely Great-horned Owl sitting near the station very early in the morning.
