We finished the season of fall banding at Chico Basin Ranch with 1694 birds of 46 species – an amazing new season record. Species and daily totals follow. Our last two days were slow ones. High winds on Friday precluded banding for more than a few hours with only eight nets open; we noticed plenty of birds within the net array, but we just couldn't keep the nets open in those winds. Saturday's cold temperatures delayed opening in the morning and despite our best efforts, we couldn't come up with the six more captures that would have taken us to 1,700. Maybe next year……………….
