This is why a few of us who have seen him think "Trumpeter" when we first see him. When I was out earlier this week with other birders observing the swans I could not immediately see the size difference - mostly because U856 tended to keep to himself. Today I was able to get photos of U856 swimming with the other Tundras and now I'm seeing the size difference that Steve and a few other birders saw. I won't question the ID of "Tundra," but I will say that the variability I saw today in the swans was interesting to note.
