The station is still getting busy days as the composition of bird species shifts. The Bird Conservancy event on World Migratory Big Day brought in many interested groups to see the station and learn about the banding process. There were some slower days last week that lend well to teaching many groups. With Yellow-rumped warblers dominating the forest last week, only 1 was caught on Tuesday the 14th, so the bulk of them must have moved North. We got our first Yellow Warblers, a pair of recaptured Bullock's Orioles from the station last fall, and a Yellow-breasted Chat. This banding station will be operating Tuesday through Saturday until May 30th, weather and trail conditions permitting. Visitors are welcome and can register here. Park at the Maxwell Natural Area parking lot and walk south along the trail towards Dixon Reservoir, and you will see our table and awning on the hillside to the left of the access trail. Come visit!
