[cobirds] field trip announcement: "Lafayette Birds!"--Sun., Jan. 2., 1pm, Lafayette, Boulder Co.

Happy New Year, everybody!

Let's go birding together, tomorrow, Sun., Jan. 2, 2022, at Greenlee Preserve in Lafayette, Boulder Co. The outing, part of the "Lafayette Birds!" series, is sponsored by the City of Lafayette, and is free and open to the public; we get underway at the preserve at 1pm MST. Despite the current cold, temperatures are predicted to rise quickly tomorrow; it should be sunny and above freezing by the time we convene.

We have a fantastic slate of leaders, an almost embarrassing surfeit: Megan Jones Patterson, Sheridan Samano, Emily Macklin, Harry Price, and teen birders Owen Robertson, Jack Bushong, and Hannah Floyd. Comic relief and crowd control provided by Yours Truly...

Dress warmly, please, and have good footwear as there is deep snow all about. Onstreet parking near the intersection of Salina & South Fork; or park and walk from either of the two nearby parking lots at Waneka Lake. If you're coming from afar, be mindful of numerous closures and detours because of the Dec. 30-31, 2021, disaster affecting Superior and Louisville.

As usual: All are welcome, children, families, and curiosity-seekers especially so; bring binocs and a camera if you have 'em (but certainly not required); bring holiday cheer and even holiday leftovers. No RSVP necessary; just show up at the preserve at 1pm, and we'll go from there.

We'll bird in small, socially distanced groups. Have masks handy, although we do expect to be outdoors and 6+ ft. apart the whole time.

The past few days have been difficult, needless to say. I hope a bit of "ornitherapy," sensu Holly Merker, hits the right spot tomorrow. Oh, I did a bit of scouting around the preserve this afternoon, and came across this guy, still reveling at the Greenlee Preserve feeding station:

See you tomorrow!
