[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Western Slope Banding Report

We wrapped up our time in Ridgway State Park Friday. The last two days there netted us 11 new birds and 5 repeat recaptures, for a total of 92 newly banded birds, 2 previous year (2019) recaps, and 6 unbanded birds in 10 days of banding. What we lacked in bird numbers, we more than made up for in visitors. We had over 500 students visit, and nearly 75 additional guests! I'd also like to give a huge shoutout to my amazing and steadfast volunteers, Mary and Don of Black Canyon Audubon, and RSP's fantastic educator Carrie for all of your help!

RSP new birds 9/16-17:

Wilson's Warbler - 9
Orange-crowned Warbler - 1
Lincoln's Sparrow - 1

Monday was our first day of banding at the Connected Lakes State Park banding station in Grand Junction. The pace of bird captures has remained slow here on the Western Slope. We've banded 36 individuals of 9 species in the first four days, and have had school groups and visitors each day.

Connected Lakes new birds 9/20-23:

Bushtit - 2
Wilson's Warbler - 6
Orange-crowned Warbler - 1
Black-capped Chickadee - 3
House Finch - 3
White-crowned Sparrow (Mountain) - 4
White-crowned Sparrow (Gambel's) - 14
Spotted Towhee - 2
Mourning Dove -1

We will be banding at Connected Lakes SP Monday-Friday until 10/15, weather permitting. We are also open this Saturday, 9/25, for a public demo day. We usually return from our first net run by 7:30. Come visit!
