Re: [cobirds] Juvenile redtail hawk or Swainson's morph??

It's a Swainson's Hawk. Note the "bib", which a Red-tailed Hawk wouldn't have.

This guy was at Wanaka Lake last week.  At first I thought it was a juvie red tail hawk
who didn't have his red tail yet, but I was confused b/c he was sitting in the tree that
the Wanaka Swainson's hawks nested in last year.  Perhaps he is a Swainson's moph? Any thoughts?  Third  pic with the ruffled feathers is there b/c I'm fascinated by those
little birds who attack hawks - the blue jay on far left of pic had just rammed into hawk
full-tilt - and just wanted to share it.  Thanks.
