It's a Swainson's Hawk. Note the "bib", which a Red-tailed Hawk wouldn't have.

At first I thought it was a juvie red tail hawkwho didn't have his red tail yet, but I was confused b/c he was sitting in the tree thatthe Wanaka Swainson's hawks nested in last year. Perhaps he is a Swainson's moph? Any thoughts? Third pic with the ruffled feathers is there b/c I'm fascinated by thoselittle birds who attack hawks - the blue jay on far left of pic had just rammed into hawkfull-tilt - and just wanted to share it.
