Hey COBirders,
The last three days have been pretty good for numbers at Clear Spring Ranch banding, at least better than all spring.
31 birds banded Friday, 19 on Thursday, 24 on Wednesday. My best three-day stretch this spring.
Lots of bigger birds moving this week, with flocks of W Tanagers, lots of Bullock's and Orchard Orioles, a smattering of warblers, and finally some flycatchers.
Best on Wed - N Waterthrush, 8 Yellow Warblers, a Wilson's Warbler (I don't get many in the spring), 2 Bullock's Orioles and 2 Orchard Orioles.
Best on Thurs - FOY Alder Flycatcher, Dusky Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, a VERY LATE Ruby-crowned Kinglet, imm F, 4 YB Chats, a MacGillivray's Warbler (only my second), another Orchard Oriole, 2 Black-headed Grosbeaks, and FOY 2 Blue Grosbeaks.
Best on Fri - FOY W Wood Pewee, 2 Willow Flycatchers, another Warbling Vireo, 2 Brown Thrashers, my first Lincoln's Sparrow since 4/29 (!!), another N Waterthrush, 7 Yellow Warblers, another Wilson's Warbler, 3 more Bullock's Orioles, another Orchard Oriole, and a 3rd Blue Grosbeak.
3 of the chats, one catbird, and 5 Yellow Warblers are returns form previous years, finding their way back.
Unusual sightings (un-banded) include Friday a Snow Goose (!) with a flock of Canadas at dawn, and promptly departed, and a Sage Thrasher along the road to my site.
Have a good weekend,
Steve Brown
Colo Spgs.
