I can't believe how busy my back yard has been today! I have the usual visitors (lots of black-capped chickadees and house finches, a couple of red-breasted nuthatches at the feeders, and 2 or 3 jays who drop by, the yellow-rumped and orange-crowned warblers who visit the aspen trees in my yard, plus the hermit thrush who hangs out in the evergreen behind my fence and occasionally pops into view). But today, I also had a downy woodpecker, two collared doves, and a northern flicker all using the feeders or foraging under it. I realize these are all common birds in this area and maybe don't warrant an email, but I've never seen them at my feeders before and have enjoyed watching them this morning. And after all the tiny chickadees and nuthatches, that flicker looked HUGE hanging off my feeder! I had to do a double-take. lol. Wish I had been able to get a picture but of course he'd flown off by the time I grabbed my camera. 😂
(But I did attach my very favorite picture of the jays, which I snapped a couple of days ago.)
I'll be visiting family in northern Louisiana at the end of the month, so I'm also trying to make a list of birds not commonly found in CO that I might be able to spot down there. Based on eBird, it looks like indigo buntings might be a possibility, and *maybe* a painted bunting (although looks like I'll be right on the tail end of their time in the area, so that one's less likely). Anyway...
