[cobirds] Unusual chickadee sightings - CSR, El Paso Co

Hey COBirders,

Adding to what Dave L posted - I HAVE been seeing more of the foothills species at Clear Spring Ranch banding lately.

This week I have had BC Chickadees, multiples, every day. Now, I usually band several, but mostly from the stock of local breeders, and mostly early, like in August. In the last week I've banded 10 BCCH, 2 Mountain Chickadees (2, 3rd for me at CSR), Brown Creeper (1st there), Rock Wren (5th in 8/years there), and have seen several Woodhouse's Scrub Jays (previously maybe 2 before).

Other than that, the October shift in species means that I am seeing few-to-none on Wilson's Warblers, Chipping Sparrows, MacGillivray's Warblers, and Lincoln's Sparrows, and more Orange-crowned Warblers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Hermit Thrush, Song Sparrows, and towhees.

With the 1900 Chipping Sparrows having finely moved-on, numbers are back to the normal range of 25-40 birds/day. More on season banding numbers later.

Happy migration,
Steve Brown
