Hi-
-- I am going to be in the Gunnison area for a day next week and am going to do some road birding in the hope of a random encounter with a Gunnison Sage-grouse.
I know that they can be hard to find outside of lek season and I fully understand the sensitive nature of both the species and information regarding it.
Rest assured that I will not go chasing after any birds I see or create any disturbance beyond driving down a public road.
With that said, does anyone have any suggestions regarding which public road might offer the best chance of seeing one and what time of day might be optimal? eBird data provides only a clue as to the general area, but nothing more granular than that.
Please reply off-list directly to me at estiles74@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Andrew Melnykovych
