[cobirds] Lewis WP Stony Pass Road (Jefferson)

This afternoon Micki and I were able to find a pair of Lewis's Woodpecker and their nesthole in the Hayden Burn. Coming from the south (Cheesman Reservoir) on Stony Pass Road there are two roads going off to the left, first to Goose Creek Road, and the second Flying G Ranch. The LEWP were in the "V" between the ranch road and a climbing twisting Stony Pass Road among half a dozen dead Ponderosa Pine snags. If you don't see them, just wait; they are there.

Also spotted a Red-headed Woodpecker flying in similar pines toward the ranch but did not check for others.

Also found the Three-toed WP reported on June 9 by Dave Cameron at State 67 and Rampart Range Road. From the public toilet, walk in 10 yards on the dirt bike trail and immediately right on a fainter trail. Go some 200 yards along the ridge and notice an area of dead trees and aspens in a steep "bowl" on the right.
