I explored portions of Sedgwick, Logan, & Washington counties earlier today.
-- Jumbo Reservoir, Little Jumbo, and Prewitt were all rather full with little or no shoreline, resulting in no shorebirds. Similarly, Red Lion SWA was overly full of water, which yielded lots of dabbling ducks, but few shorebirds (excepting a bevy of WIPH). The entrance road to Duck Creek SWA was teaming with Upland Sandpipers, I was easily able to locate 9 individuals on the drive in; it makes me wonder how many more are in the massive fields nearby.
With full reservoirs, I'm thinking that seasonal playas throughout the eastern plains will be a good treat this spring for migrating shorebirds.
If anyone has suggestions of good plains playa hotspots (in addition to what Gary Lefko is posting (thanks Gary!)), I would love to hear about them.
