So it was clear, calm, and warm this morning at Clear Spring Ranch banding, so it will be dead again, right? WRONG!
Birds were being caught by 645 this morning, and I didn't have a net-run without birds until after 1100. There was an impressive amount of diversity, and good numbers, too.
55 birds banded today.
Highlights were:
FOS American Redstart adult male, only my 2nd banded at CSR. Very cool. Pic below,
FOS Northern Waterthrush - three(!) here at Waterthrush Central, one at 645, 2 after 1030.
also:
FOS Black-headed Grosbeak (4 seen, 2 banded, one male recaptured from 5/2016, and was an after-second year then) (so… hatched 2014 or before?)
FOS Yellow-breasted Chat, SY male
FOS Clay-colored Sparrow, SY
FOS Swainson's Hawk seen
FOS Lark Bunting male seen
4 Yellow-rumped Warblers seen (2 Myrtle, 2 Audubon's)
7 Com Yellowthroat banded
4 Yellow Warblers banded
14 Lincoln's Sparrows banded
3 Brown Thrashers, 2 seen, while 1 was banded
6 White-crowned Sparrows banded, 3 Gambell's ssp, 3 Mountain ssp
A pretty great day for having zero expectations!
Happy Migration!
