[cobirds] Grandview Cemetery, Fort Collins (Larimer) the last two days

Friday, October 6th, highlights were:

Red Crossbill, probably Type 4 or one of the other small-billed types, 18, in spruce in northeast corner (seen also by David Wade)

Bluebird sp. (6 flying se to nw (that is, right into the wind), probably Mountains, FOY for bluebirds at the site

Sandhill Crane (flock of 68, high and heading south, FOY at Grandview)

Pygmy Nuthatches continue, may overwinter at site for first time (that I know of)

Hackberry gall-making psyllids beginning to hatch (lots of yellow-rumps and other species in hackberry)

Gray Flycatcher (all gray, no hint of yellow anywhere, very high in champ honeylocust in middle of Section 8, beak narrow, long and sharply black-tipped, even eyering).  Debated about this being Dusky, but width of tail base plus examination of underside of beak in photos led to ID of Gray.

Highlights:

Sapsucker (heard only, along the south edge, probably Red-naped)

White-throated Sparrow (young, tan-striped, in southeastern corner with juncos near pumphouse late in visit)

Bushtit (at least 10, in hackberry eating emerging gall-making psyllid adults)

Spotted Towhee (female, along ditch north of entry bridge, east side)

Turkey Vulture (2)

Hackberry psyllid hatch is picking up steam.  As long as the weather stays nice, hackberries will be highly attractive to migrant songbirds.  Party might be over, or at least suspended, starting Monday until it is >50 degrees F again.
