[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Barr Lake Station, 10/7/17

After days of iffy weather, it was wonderful to have a lovely sunny fall morning, which we shared with lots of visitors, who enjoyed a wide variety of common but interesting birds. Sparrows dominated, as would be expected in October, but we had at least 1 each of 5 warbler species.  Most interesting were some juncos that we had trouble getting down to subspecies and an unusually marked Townsend's Warbler that we spent a lot of time deciding was not some kind of hybrid.  Here's the breakdown of the 29 new birds:

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 7

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Unidentified 1

Townsend's Warbler 1

Common Yellowthroat 1

Song Sparrow 4

Lincoln's Sparrow 2

White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 3

Dark-eyed Junco, Slate-colored 1

Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 3

Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 2

Come visit! We are open 6 days per week (*CLOSED Mondays*), weather permitting, through October 15. We are opening nets at 7 a.m. and should have birds back at the station before 7:45. We will close most days by about 11:30. School groups arrive most weekdays at
about 9:30.
