[cobirds] Steve Bloom has passed away

Dr. Steve Bloom was Vice Chairman of Bird Conservancy of the Rockies (BCR—formerly Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory). Steve was a founding member of Colorado Audubon in 1999, serving as its President for three years. When state chapters were disbanded in favor of regional organizations five years ago, Steve joined BCR as a Director. He advised on the Big Strategic Picture as easily as the nuanced details of leadership. Steve and his wife Mike (Michele) loved birding, having seen over 3,000 species worldwide.

Steve was an organizational psychologist, most recently as a partner with Somerville Partners. He was a psychological consultant to several of the well-known Tier 1 and Tier 2 not-for-profit organizations in Colorado. His attempt at retirement in 2011 was the only unsuccessful effort of his I know about, caused because his clients kept calling him for additional services. He previously served the state of Colorado as Director of Medical and Mental Health Services.

An ideal consultant, Steve was a brilliant analyst of an organization's issues combined with a tact and gentleness that led to acceptance of his suggestions. He also avoided the limelight, preferring to work behind the scenes to help both organizations and individuals on leadership.

Steve will be sorely missed by BCR, his church, his family, his clients, and his many friends. Thank you, Steve, for sharing with all of us your life well lived. And thanks from me for your wisdom, energy, and wry humor in our work together.
