Deb and I did a Great Backyard Bird Count By Bicycle today, covering about 15 miles and six lakes in Lakewood: Kountze, Sanctuary Park, East Res, Main Res, Cottonwood Park, and Smith Res.
We tallied 1508 birds. Nothing rare or unexpected, but of note was that there were Hooded Mergansers on every body of water we visited except Sanctuary Park. Raptors were conspicuous by their absence today-- one Red tail. More Mallards than one hopes to ever count again. Maybe just the actual backyard tomorrow.
