[cobirds] Re: Littleton - Ken Caryl birds - Chatfield (Arapahoe and Jefferson)

I erred in typing Common Grackle, when it should have been 4 GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES flying over St. Mary Church. Common is, of course, common.

This afternoon a male CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was singing for about 5 min. from some tall cottonwoods near my Ken Caryl Valley yard. I had only a short far off view but enjoyed hearing him well. Strong winds and some rain have put a damper on things since. This morning a male SUMMER TANAGER was at Lee Gulch near St. Mary Church in Littleton, singing occasionally over about 30 minutes, but then quiet and likely moved on. The trees near the St. Mary office has a Western Wood-Pewee, and singing Western Tanager and Lazuli Bunting.

Yesterday 4 COMMON GRACKLES flew east over the St. Mary parking lot; this was just my 2nd encounter with that species in Littleton.

Tardy reporting of a few other highlights...

May 16. Massey Draw beside my home in KCV had Least Flycatcher singing, more Clay-colored Sparrows, Gray Catbird arrived there. Deer Creek inlet at Chatfield Reservoir had a NOR. WATERTHRUSH.

May 17. Birding early along the South Platte upstream of Kingfisher Bridge in Chatfield - 5 of 6 Warbling Vireos that I heard well sang like the Eastern form. 1 male American Redstart, 1 Nor. Waterthrush, 1 female Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Least Flycatcher was numerous (about 12-14), 1 Red-eyed Vireo, 1 Eastern Phoebe. A Solitary Sandpiper flew over Hildebrand Ranch.

Ketring Lake in Littleton had an Ovenbird that sang 2x and remained hidden, and a pair of Hairy Woodpeckers. The latter seemed rare for Littleton proper and the general urban setting. eBird had just two prior May reports from the city (one from Ketring a few years back) and not too many more in the non-breeding season.

May 18. A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was in my neighbor's yard in Ken Caryl Valley.
